Title: Atlantia
   Author: Ally Condie
   Format: Hardcover
   Release Date: October 28th, 2014

     Can you hear Atlantia breathing?

For as long as she can remember, Rio has dreamt of the sand and sky Above—of life beyond her underwater city of Atlantia. But in a single moment, all her plans for the future are thwarted when her twin sister, Bay, makes an unexpected decision, stranding Rio Below. Alone, ripped away from the last person who knew Rio’s true self—and the powerful siren voice she has long hidden—she has nothing left to lose.

Guided by a dangerous and unlikely mentor, Rio formulates a plan that leads to increasingly treacherous questions about her mother’s death, her own destiny, and the complex system constructed to govern the divide between land and sea. Her life and her city depend on Rio to listen to the voices of the past and to speak long-hidden truths.

My Stance:

Atlantia while not being on my most watched list, being by one of my most adored authors and someone that has a lot of responsibility for getting me writing, Ally Condie just nails this book home. If it has anything close to the way Matched worked out, I am sure this book will be a home run, better if she's improved it. The mythology of Atlantia has always interested me, however I couldn't name what it is about the whole aspect that's really got me fired up or the fact that there's nearly nothing there. It's got great potential and the characters seems unique.

Rio, the main character, is the point of my first issue and it's rather simple. With nothing being known of Atlantia, is she human or mermaid or something else entirely? Not that I'm trying to tell Ally Condie how to write, but with nearly nothing in mythology why not go crazy with it. Maybe that's where the whole siren bit comes in, I am sure to enjoy where that takes off and how it aids her. I just hope that a love triangle more or less stays out of this novel.
