My Review:
This book I read as an introduction into White's novels, but when I finished the book I wondered if there would be a better book to start of with. First I am a big greek and egyptian mythology, so I may not be the best person to judge this book. However, I feel I am fair in that I could have given this a higher rating for that fact. This book focuses on Isadora and her family, plus a love interest, and that gets the book into a fair bit of trouble.
I love the concept of this book, it sounds so great and well unique. I was hoping to enjoy it, but Isadora is just so hard to relate to. She lives with Osiris, Anubis, Isis, etc. and is unhappy with it. Frankly the lifestyle she lives is rather less than attractive, so I can't blame her there, but at the same time to be so angsty and angry is just hard when she is able to move out. She does grow on you, and how she matures as the novel goes on is the brighter side to her character.
The love interest was cute and at times rather cliche and hard to just get invested in. I want something more involved or realistic to be interested at all in it or it better be very well thought out and great to be a fantasy romance. In this case, it's just not thought out enough for me, and fell sort. The better part is the whole egyptian and greek mythology that's laced throughout the novel. The mythology is what kept this book afloat, and it was what got me to read further.
While the mythology was okay, but it just doesn't make this book a favorite or anywhere close to something of that calibre. I was hoping it would be a great intro to Kiersten White, but frankly I am sure there's probably a better book out there that would fulfill that. However, if you are looking for a book that's quick and cute, this isn't bad for a good quick afternoon read. Just be warned, it's not the best book on the shelf, but it should give you that decent read for the afternoon.
