My Stance:
Wintergirls is a book that I never thought I would get interested in. However with The Impossible Knife of Memory fully intriguing me, I sought out other books by her. In it came this book which at first I thought it would be a paranormal book based on the first part of the synopsis, boy was I wrong. I never would have thought from the cover it would be a coming of age/recovery tell.
Lia and Cassie two girls who compete to be the skinniest? How is that even normal. I love the question, what comes after a size double-zero? However, I don't think that's a healthy question to ask. This book reminds me of what Christian Bale did to himself for the role he had in Machinist. I don't think what these girls are doing is at all right and what it would take to bring yourself back out of that lifestyles and change who you are, would be beyond gut wrenching. I am anxious and I want to see more of the brutal world Anderson gives her readers.
