Stephen has been invisible for practically his whole life — because of a curse his grandfather, a powerful cursecaster, bestowed on Stephen’s mother before Stephen was born. So when Elizabeth moves to Stephen’s NYC apartment building from Minnesota, no one is more surprised than he is that she can see him. A budding romance ensues, and when Stephen confides in Elizabeth about his predicament, the two of them decide to dive headfirst into the secret world of cursecasters and spellseekers to figure out a way to break the curse. But things don’t go as planned, especially when Stephen’s grandfather arrives in town, taking his anger out on everyone he sees. In the end, Elizabeth and Stephen must decide how big of a sacrifice they’re willing to make for Stephen to become visible — because the answer could mean the difference between life and death. At least for Elizabeth.
My Stance:
Sorry!! I had this all setup and ready to go, just forgot to post it. I apologize. Invisibility is written by two authors I never thought I would see together. Andrea Cremer who is known primarily for her Nightshade series and I will have to have is met with the utmost respect in the paranormal story world. Than there is David Levithan who is the exact opposite, more of a contemporary romance or just a great coming of age author. I thoroughly love David Levithan's work and I can't wait to get into this book.
If Andrea can allow David to let him work the characters and build the emotional attachment to them that every reader and author is more than likely trying to achieve, this book will be flawless. However, if David can leave the paranormal world to Andea, keep them in their respectful realms, the book is up for one of my favorite books this year.
Enough about the authors, down to the real topic at hand, the book. This book starts of reminding me so much of how Every Day, and the main character sounds exactly like A. I look at the relationship and everything about the characters breaths David's work and that's a great sign for this book. The dilemma of him being invisible all the time would be good at times, but as well, I understand that the character should feel so need to speak with someone or any human contact.
Than the world of Andrea comes in full force. A world in which Stephen is cursed and meant to live invisible. I love how they created that world, a secret world beneath everything, or that's what I would believe where that world would exist. Than to find someone who can see Stephen, this Elizabeth. Elizabeth looks to be this great character in which wants him to be better, pushes him to find out about the curse. I look for the relationship being the highlight of this book, and part of the reason it's here.
