[Stacking the Shelves] - #19

Stacking the Shelves is hosted by Tynga’s Reviews and is all about sharing the books you are adding to your bookshelf, be it the physical one or your digital one!

This Mailbox Monday will be slightly different. There are more books here than what I normally would do but there is a reason for it, and I hope you all enjoy it. I am highlighting two series I just picked up, and in doing so I will talk about the first book only, but will show the entire series and books that are in both of the series. I had a bit of spare money that built up and I've been looking at both of these series, and when I got a few coupons and deals with Barnes and Noble I picked the box series up. So here we are, with The Beautiful Creature Series and The Hush, Hush series. I hope you enjoy them!

Beautiful Creatures
Hush, Hush

Mailbox Pickup:

Author: Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
   Format: Hardback
   Release Date: December 1st, 2009

Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.

Ethan Wate, who has been counting the months until he can escape from Gatlin, is haunted by dreams of a beautiful girl he has never met. When Lena moves into the town's oldest and most infamous plantation, Ethan is inexplicably drawn to her and determined to uncover the connection between them.

In a town with no surprises, one secret could change everything.

Beautiful Creatures, I absolutely didn't pick this up because of the movie. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I hope to when I find some free time and a possible date to go with. Now that, that is out of the way, this book caught my eye, and the whole curse dilemma seems to push this interest even further. Now I have seen commercials for the movie, who hasn't, but I will not use any part of the movie to judge this book. The reason for this is, the story could be different, and the curse could be completely different than what they used in the movie. I don't understand why they would, but the possibility is there.

Aside all that, I am curious to see the curse on Lena, and I want to see just what becomes of Ethan and Lena. And I hope that Lena in this series is more knowledgeable of what she's getting into, and her surroundings than the Lena in The Fallen series. Ethan is drawn to a new girl? Really that's how you get two characters to meet, I mean it seems to cliche. New girl in a new town, of course everyone is going to be drawn to her, I wish there was a more in depth reason, and maybe there is. I'll have to wait and see!

Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.

     Sometimes life-ending.

Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan's eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there's no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town's tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.

   Release Date: October 18th, 2011

Ethan Wate thought he was getting used to the strange, impossible events happening in Gatlin, his small Southern town. But now that Ethan and Lena have returned home, strange and impossible have taken on new meanings. Swarms of locusts, record-breaking heat, and devastating storms ravage Gatlin as Ethan and Lena struggle to understand the impact of Lena's Claiming. Even Lena's family of powerful Supernaturals is affected - and their abilities begin to dangerously misfire. As time passes, one question becomes clear: What — or who — will need to be sacrificed to save Gatlin?

For Ethan, the chaos is a frightening but welcome distraction. He's being haunted in his dreams again, but this time it isn't by Lena - and whatever is haunting him is following him out of his dreams and into his everyday life. Even worse, Ethan is gradually losing pieces of himself — forgetting names, phone numbers, even memories. He doesn't know why, and most days he's too afraid to ask.

Sometimes there isn't just one answer or one choice. Sometimes there's no going back. And this time there won't be a happy ending.

Is death the end . . . or only the beginning?

Ethan Wate has spent most of his life longing to escape the stiflingly small Southern town of Gatlin. He never thought he would meet the girl of his dreams, Lena Duchannes, who unveiled a secretive, powerful, and cursed side of Gatlin, hidden in plain sight. And he never could have expected that he would be forced to leave behind everyone and everything he cares about. So when Ethan awakes after the chilling events of the Eighteenth Moon, he has only one goal: to find a way to return to Lena and the ones he loves.

Back in Gatlin, Lena is making her own bargains for Ethan's return, vowing to do whatever it takes -- even if that means trusting old enemies or risking the lives of the family and friends Ethan left to protect.

Worlds apart, Ethan and Lena must once again work together to rewrite their fate, in this stunning finale to the Beautiful Creatures series.

   Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
   Format: Hardback
   Release Date: October 13th, 2009

     A SACRED OATH
     A FALLEN ANGEL
     A FORBIDDEN LOVE

Romance was not part of Nora Grey's plan. She's never been particularly attracted to the boys at her school, no matter how hard her best friend, Vee, pushes them at her. Not until Patch comes along. With his easy smile and eyes that seem to see inside her, Patch draws Nora to him against her better judgment.

But after a series of terrifying encounters, Nora's not sure whom to trust. Patch seems to be everywhere she is and seems to know more about her than her closest friends. She can't decide whether she should fall into his arms or run and hide. And when she tries to seek some answers, she finds herself near a truth that is way more unsettling than anything Patch makes her feel.

For she is right in the middle of an ancient battle between the immortal and those that have fallen - and, when it comes to choosing sides, the wrong choice will cost Nora her life.

Hush, Hush I added to my list of books to get when I was in the middle of The Fallen series and maybe I was hoping for a better angelic romance series than what Fallen provided and this was my scapegoat and hope that there was some light out there in this genre. However, this seems to be almost along the same lines as the first book of Fallen sounded. It sounds like a good romance, but the issue I have is how Nora's first reaction with a potential partner, Patch, is almost entirely ruined. He's a creepy stalker; ask any girl nowadays if they would appreciate a guy, who she just met, always around and knows more about her than what she does herself. It's just weird and obnoxious.

Now if this book ends with the realization that Patch is an angel, I'm going to face-palm and hope the series will redeem itself greatly in the following book. One more step further if we find out that Patch or whoever Nora ends up with, wouldn't choose a side, Good or Evil, but chooses to be with Nora I will beat my head against a desk! I'm not saying its not romantic or anything of that nature, but it's been done over and over, I want something fresh, something new; and I hope this book can provide just that!

Title: Crescendo
   Author: Becca Fitzpatrick
   Format: Hardback
   Release Date: October 19th, 2010

Nora Grey's life is still far from perfect. Surviving an attempt on her life wasn't pleasant, but at least she got a guardian angel out of it. A mysterious, magnetic, gorgeous guardian angel. But despite his role in her life, Patch has been acting anything but angelic. He's more elusive than ever (if that's possible) and what's worse, he seems to be spending time with Nora's archenemy, Marcie Millar.

Nora would have hardly noticed Scott Parnell, an old family friend who has moved back to town, if Patch hadn't been acting so distant. Even with Scott's totally infuriating attitude, Nora finds herself drawn to him - despite her lingering feelings that he is hiding something.

If that weren't enough, Nora is haunted by images of her murdered father, and comes to question whether her Nephilim bloodline has anything to do with his death. Desperate to figure out what happened, she puts herself in increasingly dangerous situations to get the answer. But maybe some things are better left buried, because the truth could destroy everything - and everyone - she trusts.

But there is this voice in the back of her head, an idea that she can almost reach out and touch. Visions of angel wings and unearthly creatures that have nothing to do with the life she knows.

And this unshakable feeling that a part of her is missing.

Nora and Patch thought their troubles were behind them. Hank is gone and they should be able to put his ugly vendetta to rest.      Nora will never let that happen, so she and Patch make a plan: lead everyone to believe they have broken up, and work the system from the inside. Nora will convince the Nephilim that they are making a mistake in fighting the fallen angels, and Patch will find out everything he can from the opposing side. They will end this war before it can even begin.

But the best-laid plans often go awry. Nora is put through the paces in her new role and finds herself drawn to an addictive power she never anticipated.
