With shades of The Hunger Games, Ender’s Game, and Game of Thrones, debut author Pierce Brown’s genre-defying epic Red Rising hit the ground running and wasted no time becoming a sensation. Golden Son continues the stunning saga of Darrow, a rebel forged by tragedy, battling to lead his oppressed people to freedom from the overlords of a brutal elitist future built on lies. Now fully embedded among the Gold ruling class, Darrow continues his work to bring down Society from within. A life-or-death tale of vengeance with an unforgettable hero at its heart, Golden Son guarantees Pierce Brown’s continuing status as one of fiction’s most exciting new voices.
My Stance:
The sequel to Red Rising just makes me wonder about reading that book. I need to get around to it and the cover looks pretty good. The one line just stands in my head, "... continuing status as one of fiction's most exciting new voices." I want to read the book after a statement like that. I would love to say I didn't read the synopsis on this book, but I did and there's not much to learn or spoil in this book. Franky it's synopsis like this that give nothing about the first book away, but actually create more intrigue to read the first. I love it, but as well with so much high statements about the author, I am afraid it'll fall short.

Bryn Aven is an outcast among the Kanin, the most powerful of the troll tribes.
Set apart by her heritage and her past, Bryn is a tracker who's determined to become a respected part of her world. She has just one goal: become a member of the elite King’s Guard to protect the royal family. She's not going to let anything stand in her way, not even a forbidden romance with her boss Ridley Dresden.
But all her plans for the future are put on hold when Konstantin– a fallen hero she once loved – begins kidnapping changelings. Bryn is sent in to help stop him, but will she lose her heart in the process

My Stance:
Frostfire, another book by Amanda Hocking that I've not read. I need to just stop being on the internet and binge read one weekend or month. I would love to go on vacation (when I am not sick or have work to attend to), but I would love to do it while I have an array of things to post and comment on. Either way, this book is just so Wintery and Christmasy that I just had to add it. The cover is just too gorgeous to do without.
Bryn is a different sort of girl than when I read the synopsis first. I am not sure if I am really going to enjoy this as much as I think, but its worth a shot. I enjoy how this has a sort of love interest that's gone crazy or is just evil, not sure which. However, at the same time, you get the idea that she is falling for her boss (which I'm not sure if that's gross or okay, I am picturing an old wrinkly boss). I just am not sure how this fantasy will tell out, the whole love triangle that's a bit twisted and seems pretty good (I know, I said it sounds good).

From the #1 "New York Times" bestselling author of Words of Radiance coauthor of Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series, and creator of the internationally bestselling Mistborn Trilogy, Brandon Sanderson presents the second book in the Reckoners series: Firefight, the sequel to the #1 bestseller Steelheart.
They told David it was impossible--that even the Reckoners had never killed a High Epic. Yet, Steelheart--invincible, immortal, unconquerable--is dead. And he died by David's hand.
Eliminating Steelheart was supposed to make life more simple. Instead, it only made David realize he has questions. Big ones. And there's no one in Newcago who can give him the answers he needs.
Babylon Restored, the old borough of Manhattan, has possibilities, though. Ruled by the mysterious High Epic, Regalia, David is sure Babylon Restored will lead him to what he needs to find. And while entering another city oppressed by a High Epic despot is a gamble, David's willing to risk it. Because killing Steelheart left a hole in David's heart. A hole where his thirst for vengeance once lived. Somehow, he filled that hole with another Epic--Firefight. And he's willing to go on a quest darker, and more dangerous even, than the fight against Steelheart to find her, and to get his answers.

My Stance:
This book is a great way to start the year out. I loved Steelheart. While it's not one of my highest ranking books, there was this big or originality that just caught my attention in the whole bit. The bit with Firefight at the end was just so great in leading to the next book. Brandon Sanderson was never really on my radar and while he's spoken highly in the whole fantasy realm, I had never heard of him. While as a first book to read by him, it just brought me in and hist style was so good.
David while being a plain boy in a world in which nearly every teenager or young adult is an Epic (has some sort of super power). The band of Reckoners who are as nearly plain as David are bent on trying to bring the Epics who abuse their power to justice, and one of the High Epics are dead because of them. It makes the story great knowing they are putting their lives on the line to try to make the cities better, and the people in them better. I just love the premise and the general idea, it's a great intro into Brandon's style and what he does.
